Overview
Diamond Cut Wheel Repairs, done properly,
done on your driveway.
A clear explanation of what diamond cut repairs covers, who it suits, when to book it, and why the choice of technician matters more than the price on a leaflet.
What it is
Diamond cut alloy refinishing is a two-stage process: the wheel is stripped and re-lacquered, then the machined face is cut on a lathe to restore the distinctive polished-silver look. It is fundamentally different from a standard alloy refurbishment because it requires precision machining, not just paint.
Who it's for
Anyone with kerbed, corroded or clearcoat-failed diamond cut wheels, a finish used on most premium marques including Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Range Rover, Volvo, Volkswagen and Mini. Also fleets and dealerships prepping premium stock for the forecourt.
When you need it
Book a repair as soon as the lacquer starts to whiten (typical of failing diamond cut clearcoat) or after any kerb strike that has cut through the machined face. Left too long, corrosion under the lacquer spreads across the machined surface and reduces how many times the wheel can be re-cut in its lifetime.
Why it matters
A diamond cut wheel has a finite amount of aluminium that can be removed on a lathe, typically three or four cuts across the wheel's life. Doing it properly, minimising material removed each time, and lacquering with the right UV-stable clearcoat is what preserves your set of wheels long-term.
Why it can't wait
What happens when
diamond cut repairs are ignored.
Diamond cut alloys are unforgiving. Small mistakes at any stage of a refinish permanently reduce how many times the wheel can be repaired again, and often destroy the wheel entirely.
Clearcoat that has started to whiten is corroding underneath. Left alone, corrosion pits the machined surface and forces a much deeper cut when you eventually refinish.
A single kerb strike cutting through the machined face exposes bare aluminium, corrosion starts within days in wet UK conditions and spreads under the surrounding lacquer.
Standard alloy refurbishers without a lathe will 'silver paint' a diamond cut to imitate the finish, it never matches, always looks flat under sunlight, and can hide corrosion problems underneath.
Wheels sent away for repair spend days in transit, off the vehicle, with the tyre broken from the bead, a compromise our on-site lathe repairs avoid.
Our process
How a diamond cut repair
job actually runs.
A clear, repeatable process for every job, so you know exactly what happens and when, from the moment you send us photos to the moment we hand the vehicle back.
Photo & wheel-spec assessment
Send photos of each affected wheel plus the vehicle registration. We identify the wheel design and confirm suitability for diamond cut refinishing on-site.
Wheel removal & preparation
Wheels are removed from the vehicle, tyres carefully broken from the bead where needed, stripped of old lacquer, and any damage prepped.
Colour recoat (inner face)
The pockets and inner face are re-coloured | typically anthracite or gunmetal | in the correct colour for your wheel design.
Precision lathe cut
The machined face is cut on a mobile CNC lathe to restore the fine concentric groove pattern that gives a diamond cut its distinctive appearance.
Clearcoat & refit
A UV-stable diamond cut clearcoat is applied and cured. Wheels are refitted, torqued to spec, and inspected before sign-off.

Benefits
What you actually get
when you book with us.
True machined finish restored
A real lathe cut | not a silver paint imitation | so the finish reads correctly under sunlight and matches the original design.
On-site convenience
No drop-off, no couriers, no downtime. Wheels stay with the vehicle.
Corrosion arrested
Existing corrosion under the lacquer is cut back and treated before the new clearcoat is applied, extending the wheel's usable life.
UV-stable clearcoat
The correct diamond cut clearcoat resists the whitening failure that ruins cheap refinishes within a year.
Minimal material removed
A conservative cut leaves more material for future repairs, so the wheel can be refinished more times in its life.
Lifetime workmanship guarantee
Backed for as long as you own the vehicle (rust excluded).
Depth of service
The detail behind
the finish.
Diamond cut is a specialist process, and there are important variations that determine whether we recommend it, standard refurbishment, or replacement.
How many times can a wheel be cut?
Typically three or four times across a wheel's life, depending on how conservatively each cut is done and how much material is removed to reach fresh aluminium under existing damage.
When to choose diamond cut vs full refurb
If the machined face is intact or only lightly damaged, diamond cut is the right call. If the face is heavily gouged, deeply kerbed on multiple points, or the wheel has been cut too many times already, a full painted refurbishment often produces a better long-term result.
Corrosion treatment
White-worm corrosion under the lacquer is common on wheels three to five years old. It must be cut back to clean aluminium before recoating, otherwise the corrosion continues under the new clearcoat and the wheel whitens again within months.
Clearcoat quality matters
Standard 2K clearcoats fail on diamond cut wheels within a season. We use a specialist UV-stable diamond cut lacquer designed for the reflective machined surface.
Wheels & tyres, pressure sensors
Where wheels have TPMS sensors, they are removed and refitted with correct torque. Sensor batteries near end-of-life are flagged for you to replace.
Fleet & dealership work
Dealership pre-sale prep on premium stock is scheduled around forecourt hours. Fleet accounts can book multiple vehicles per visit.
