Overview

SMART Repairs, done properly,
done on your driveway.

A clear explanation of what SMART repairs covers, who it suits, when to book it, and why the choice of technician matters more than the price on a leaflet.

What it is

SMART repair, Small and Medium Area Repair Technology, is a focused, panel-specific repair method used to restore localised paint, dent and scuff damage without dismantling the vehicle or repainting an entire panel. It is the same core process used by manufacturer-approved bodyshops, refined into a mobile format that comes to you.

Who it's for

SMART repairs suit private drivers preparing a car for sale, lease-return inspections, fleet vehicles that need to stay on the road, dealerships preparing forecourt stock, and insurance-approved cosmetic claims where a full bodyshop respray is disproportionate.

When you need it

Book a SMART repair as soon as the damage appears. Stone chips, kerb rash, shopping-trolley scuffs, small dents and paint scratches are ideal candidates while the panel is still sound. Left too long, moisture can lift the surrounding paint and turn a cosmetic job into a structural one.

Why it matters

A proper SMART repair blends into the surrounding paint so the damage becomes invisible to a buyer or lease inspector. Done badly, you get a colour patch, orange-peel texture or lifting lacquer within months. Choosing an IMI-certified technician means the substrate, primer, basecoat and clearcoat are matched, prepared and cured to manufacturer standards.

Why it can't wait

What happens when
SMART repairs are ignored.

SMART-repairable damage rarely stays cosmetic for long. What looks like a scuff today can quickly turn into a costly panel replacement, and it is almost always the wrong things people do to it that cause the escalation.

Chipped paint exposes bare metal to salt and rain, corrosion can begin within weeks in a Scottish winter and spread under sound paintwork.

Kerb scuffs on bumpers weaken the clearcoat, and UV light then lifts the surrounding paint into a much larger repair area.

DIY touch-up sticks and polishing pads often bake pigment into the clearcoat and leave a permanent shadow that only a full respray will remove.

Lease and PCP returns are inspected against BVRLA standards, cosmetic damage attracts charges that comfortably exceed the cost of a proper SMART repair.

Trade-in valuations drop noticeably for panels with visible damage, even when the mechanicals are perfect.

Our process

How a SMART repair
job actually runs.

A clear, repeatable process for every job, so you know exactly what happens and when, from the moment you send us photos to the moment we hand the vehicle back.

01

Photo assessment

Send clear photos of the damage by WhatsApp to 07914 251016 or through the quote form. We assess panel condition, colour code and access requirements, then reply with a firm fixed price.

02

On-site preparation

We arrive at your chosen location fully equipped, mask surrounding panels, and prepare the substrate to a bare, feathered edge using controlled abrasion.

03

Colour match & blend

The paint is mixed on-site against your vehicle's colour code and blended into adjacent areas so there is no visible edge or shade change under natural light.

04

Basecoat, clearcoat, cure

Applied in controlled coats and force-dried to a hard, protective finish. We wait for full cure before compounding to a factory-matched gloss.

05

Sign-off & guarantee

You inspect the finished panel with the technician before payment. The repair is logged against a lifetime workmanship guarantee for as long as you own the vehicle.

Benefits

What you actually get
when you book with us.

Same-day completion

Most SMART repairs are completed in a single visit | usually two to four hours per panel | with no downtime for you.

Fraction of bodyshop cost

Because we repair only the affected area, a SMART repair typically costs a fraction of a full panel respray while producing a visually identical result.

Preserved factory paint

Adjacent factory paint is left untouched, protecting the panel's long-term durability and resale value.

Lifetime workmanship cover

If our work fails on any panel we've repaired, we return and put it right | for as long as you own the vehicle.

Zero disruption

No bodyshop drop-off, no rental car, no time off work | we repair the car exactly where it sits.

Insurance-ready invoices

VAT invoices provided for insurers, employers and fleet operators on request.

Depth of service

The detail behind
the finish.

SMART repair is not a single technique, it is a family of localised body-repair methods chosen to match the damage in front of us. On any given panel we may combine several of the following:

Paint SMART repair

For scratches, stone chips and small paint failures. We feather the damaged clearcoat, isolate the affected area with masking, spray a fine mist of basecoat matched to your factory colour code, then blend clearcoat outwards to hide the repair edge.

Dent SMART repair

Paintless Dent Removal (PDR) is used first wherever the paint is intact, pushing the dent from behind the panel with specialist rods. Where the paint is cracked or the dent is too sharp, we fill, sand and refinish the localised area.

Bumper SMART repair

Plastic bumper covers require flexible primers and adhesion promoters. We plastic-weld cracks and splits where possible, then build up the surface, sand back to profile, and refinish to match adjacent panels.

Alloy SMART repair

Kerb-scuffed rims are prepped, filled where needed, base-coated in the correct silver, gunmetal or bespoke finish, then cleared. For diamond-cut wheels we recommend a full diamond-cut refinish, listed as a separate service.

  • Silver, gunmetal, anthracite and bespoke colour matching
  • Corrosion cut back and treated before refinish
  • Off-vehicle or on-vehicle depending on wheel type

Materials & colour matching

We use professional-grade 2K basecoats and clearcoats mixed to your vehicle's factory colour code. Where a code has aged or drifted (common on solar-exposed reds and silvers) the mix is adjusted against a physical sample of your panel, not a computer estimate.

Private vs fleet vs dealership work

Private jobs are typically single-panel, booked directly with the owner. Fleet and dealership work is scheduled around your operations, early-morning, evening or weekend slots to keep vehicles earning. Insurance work is invoiced directly to the insurer once authorised.
